Prenatal Education and Support

While the big event of pregnancy is delivery, the months leading up to baby’s arrival are just as important to the health of both moms-to-be and their little ones. Tennova Healthcare – Harton’s prenatal classes start at square one, focusing on education as a way for women and their unborn babies to achieve wellness that begins at conception and doesn’t end at delivery.

Prenatal Classes

Prenatal classes at Tennova Healthcare – Harton are free and cover topics including labor and delivery, medical interventions, baby/postpartum care and breastfeeding. We recommend you attend classes between 28-32 weeks in pregnancy.

Our class series is designed to prepare the mother-to-be and her labor companion for the birthing experience, focusing on signs of labor, comfort measures to use in labor and breathing relaxation techniques.

The classes are taught and led by our labor and delivery RNs and certified lactation counselors.

The classes are Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the Tennova Healthcare – Harton Administrative Conference Room, AD102, located on the 1st Floor of the facility.

If you have questions, contact us at 1-931-393-7938.

Breastfeeding Support Group

Our breastfeeding support group allows mothers to share their experiences in a safe atmosphere of trust and respect. It provides a wonderful opportunity to get answers for basic questions about breastfeeding. Common topics include latch and positioning assistance, weaning from the nipple shield and returning to work.

Women are more successful at breastfeeding when they feel supported. Who should attend?

  • Anyone breastfeeding their baby who wants to get out and meet new moms.
  • Moms who have specific questions or concerns.
  • Moms who will be heading back to work and have pumping, storing and bottle feeding concerns.
  • Moms without any breastfeeding concerns but who want to support other breastfeeding mothers.

A certified lactation counselor is available for questions and guidance. The monthly breastfeeding support group allows you to connect with fellow new moms and gain support from other nursing mothers and infants.

The group meets on the first Saturday monthly from 9 - 11 a.m. in the Tennova Healthcare – Harton Private Dining Room on the ground floor through the main entrance at the rear of the facility.

If you have questions, contact us at 1-931-393-7938.
